Lakehead University, in Thunder Bay is seeking applicants for a funded MES (Master of Environmental Studies) position in Climatology/Hydrology, beginning in September 2022.

The project involves recommending adaptation strategies for protecting watershed functions in a changing climate.

The student will be working with a climate/hydrology monitoring station, analyzing time series of relevant variables, and using them to anticipate the effects of climate change.

In consultation with technical staff from the City of Thunder Bay and Lakehead Region Conservation Authority, the student will produce recommendations for action.

Eligibility

The potential MES student should have the following qualities:

  • A background in geography, environmental science, or a related field
  • Experience with quantitative analysis
  • Excellent academic research and communication skills
  • An interest in hydrological and/or climate modelling, water resources management, and climate change

Benefit

Funding will include a stipend of $20,000 per year for two years, plus publication and conference travel expenses. Additional funding may be available for domestic students in the form of a graduate assistantship.
